Advisory panel for The Mariachi Miracle

Producer/director Daniel Buckley has enlisted a group of heavy hitters to serve as the advisory board for his documentary film now in production, The Mariachi Miracle.

• Singer Linda Ronstadt, whose Canciones de Mi Padre and Mas Canciones CDs launch a resurgence of interest in mariachi music in America, Mexico and around the globe.

• Folklorist Dr. James “Big Jim” Griffith, an authority on southwest cultures and NEA Fellow

Richard Carranza, Superintendent of Schools, San Francisco School District, and founder of Tucson’s Mariachi Aztlán de Pueblo High School.

• Randy Carrillo, founder of Mariachi Cobre

Daniel Sheehy, Director, Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage

• Dr. Rebecca Montaño, former assistant superintendent of the Tucson Unified School District and former board member of the Tucson International Mariachi Conference

The group will help Buckley flesh out the complicated story of how mariachi and folklórico cultures helped transform the city of Tucson, and in turn how Tucson helped transform the mariachi and folklórico worlds.

The film is expected to premiere in April 2016.
